What this service is
Deposit Checker helps you check whether your tenancy deposit was protected, works out what the Housing Act 2004 allows a court to award, and prepares draft documents for you. We are not a law firm and we cannot tell you your chances. You send the letter and any claim yourself.
Preparing documents is not a reserved legal activity. Issuing a claim and corresponding with a court on someone else's behalf is — it is the conduct of litigation under the Legal Services Act 2007, and we do not do it. Every document we produce is a draft for you to read, correct, sign and send yourself.
What we do not promise
- We do not promise any outcome, any amount, or that a court will agree with the calculation.
- The figures shown are the statutory range and the conventional interest rate, applied to what you told us. If a date or an amount you entered is wrong, the figures are wrong.
- The scheme searches are yours: we open each scheme's own page and record what you saw. We do not have access to the schemes' databases.
If we refer you to a solicitor
If you ask us to send your case file to a partner firm, we tell you the referral fee that firm pays us before you agree, and the firm confirms it to you in writing. You are free to instruct any other solicitor, and the firm decides for itself whether to take the case.
Your part
Check every date, name and figure before you send anything. You sign the statement of truth on a claim form or a witness statement, and you are responsible for what it says.
